Perhaps one of the most widely represented and known symbols of the ancient spiritual and magical tradition from Asia is the Third Eye. Its antiquity remains unknown and quite possible it remounts itself to the legendary age of the Siddhas.
Surprisingly, numerous representations of the Pre-Hispanic art of the Americas show similar iconography of the Third Eye of Asia. Could this be just a coincidence? Or this is a case of simultaneous creations? Maybe this could be the case if the number would be small but, on the contrary, the examples are numberless. Thus, just like in Asia, in the Americas there are suggestive representations of the Third Eye or a specific symbol that replaces it. Another important fact to consider is that the presence of tradition in the Americas is far from being limited to certain regions or cultures, as the examples start in Tierra del Fuego with the Selk’nam, then the Araucanians, the Tiahuanacotas, Moches, Vicús and the Incas, among other cultures. Further north there are samples in Mesoamerica with the Mayas and Jainas and in North America with the Aztecs and tribes like Cherokee, Apache and Siksika.

La Tradición del Tercer Ojo en las Américas. Evidencia fragmentaria
de la historia olvidada de la humanidad
Quizás uno de los símbolos más ampliamente representados y conocidos de la antigua tradición espiritual y mágica de Asia es el Tercer Ojo. Su antigüedad sigue siendo desconocida y es muy posible que se remonte a la legendaria era de los siddhas.
Sorprendentemente, numerosas representaciones del arte prehispánico de las Américas muestran una iconografía similar al Tercer Ojo de Asia. ¿Podría ser esto sólo una coincidencia? ¿O este es un caso de creaciones simultáneas? Quizás este podría ser el caso si el número fuera reducido pero, por el contrario, los ejemplos son innumerables. Así, al igual que en Asia, en las Américas hay representaciones sugerentes del Tercer Ojo o bien de un símbolo específico que lo reemplaza. Otro hecho importante a considerar es que la presencia de esta tradición en las Américas está lejos de estar limitada a ciertas regiones o culturas pues los ejemplos comienzan en Tierra del Fuego con los selk’nam, luego los araucanos, los tiahuanacotas, moches, vicús y los incas, entre otras culturas. Más al norte se encuentran ejemplos en Mesoamérica con los mayas y jainas y en América del Norte con los aztecas y tribus como cherokee, apache y siksika.
