An unconventional book titled Desde Júpiter. Una novela original (“From Jupiter. An original novel”) appeared in 1877 in Santiago de Chile. The book was written by Saint Paul, nom de plume of Francisco Miralles.
In the book there are references states not only of technological-scientific developments that should be unthinkable and quite impossible for that time such as aerial transport, some sort of elevator, the metro or subway, some type of almost tridimensional photographic system and a city in harmony with the natural landscape where science and wisdom is developed but furthermore, it asserts in a vanguardist way the existence of extraterrestrials.
Is Desde Júpiter a Science Fiction book, a futurist utopia, a work of Anticipation? Yes, it is. Also, it is quite possible too to be the very first book of Science Fiction ever written in Chile and one of the firsts of South America, understanding by this just a literary genre. Nevertheless, the book of Miralles goes further: It is in fact one of the very first works in the modern world that expresses the central idea that only in the second half of the 20th century will be known as PaleoSETI, this is, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligences in Antiquity.

“Desde Júpiter”. ¿El primer libro PaleoSETI de los tiempos modernos?
Una obra no convencional titulada Desde Júpiter. Una novela original apareció en Santiago de Chile en 1877. El libro fue escrito por Saint Paul, seudónimo literario de Francisco Miralles.
En el libro hay referencias no sólo de adelantos tecnológico-científicos que debieran ser impensados y hasta imposibles en aquel tiempo como el transporte aéreo, un tipo de ascensor, el metro, una especie de sistema fotográfico tridimensional y una ciudad en armonía donde la ciencia y el saber se desarrollan sino que también, la obra establece de modo vanguardista la existencia de extraterrestres.
¿Es Desde Júpiter, un libro de Ciencia Ficción, una utopía futurista, un trabajo de Anticipación? Sí, lo es. Es también posible que sea el primer libro de Ciencia Ficción escrito en Chile y uno de los primeros de América del Sur, entendiendo por esto sólo como género literario. Sin embargo, el libro de Miralles va más allá: Es de hecho uno de las primeras obras en el mundo moderno que expresa la idea central que sólo en la segunda mitad del siglo XX será conocida como PaleoSETI, es decir, la Búsqueda de Inteligencias Extraterrestres en la Antigüedad.
