The renowned politician and Chilean historian Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna (1831-1886) in his Historia crítica y social de la ciudad de Santiago: Desde su fundación hasta nuestros días (1541-1868) –“Critical and Social History of the City of Santiago: From Its Foundation to Today (1541-1868)”–, a book that initially appeared in 1869, wrote about a singular celestial phenomenon that took place in the 17th century in the skies of the central area of the Kingdom of Chile, and which was recorded by the Royal Audience of Santiago.
