The anthropomorphic sacred post of the Araucanians, the ancestral accounts about Caragabí and Herupotoarra of the Catíos-Chocoes; the myth of the People of the Stars of the Makiritare and the Kuxa’an Suum or the “Living Rope” of the Mesoamerican tradition, present a clear notion of the “staircase” as a means of union or link between two planes: The terrestrial and the heavenly.
Between the world of men and that of the gods.
But how can it be explained the recurrence of this “staircase” in the pre-Hispanic world –practically throughout the Americas–? Would it obey a function of the primitive psyche? But with what meaning and purpose? Could its presence be explained due to the fertile pre-Hispanic imagination as the evolutionary historiography exhibitors would argue? Or rather, is it possible to observe in this symbol an anticipation of a future technology –a “memory of the future”–?
Today we understand that these magical-religious figurations of the “staircase” are in fact evocations of an unknown technology of the time before History and whose function –the union between planes– was perpetuated by means of rituality and the memory of the extraterrestrial gods.

Del Rehue al Kuxa’an Suum. Simbolismo de la “Escalera al Cielo”
en el Mundo Prehispánico
El poste sagrado antropomórfico de los araucanos, los relatos ancestrales sobre Caragabí y Herupotoarra de los catíos-chocoes; el mito de la Gente de las Estrellas de los makiritare y el Kuxa’an Suum o la “Cuerda Viviente” de la tradición mesoamericana, presentan una clara noción de la “escalera” como medio de unión o vínculo entre dos planos: El terrestre y el celestial.
Entre el mundo de los hombres y el de los dioses.
Pero, ¿cómo se explica la recurrencia de esta “escalera” en el mundo prehispánico –prácticamente en toda América–? ¿Obedecería a una función de la psique primitiva? Pero, ¿con qué significado y propósito? ¿Podría explicarse su presencia por la fértil imaginación prehispánica como argumentarían los expositores de la historiografía evolutiva? O más bien, ¿es posible observar en este símbolo una anticipación de una tecnología futura –un “recuerdo del futuro”–?
Hoy entendemos que estas figuraciones mágico-religiosas de la “escalera” son en realidad evocaciones de una tecnología desconocida de la época anterior a la historia y cuya función –la unión entre planos– se perpetuó mediante la ritualidad y la memoria de los dioses extraterrestres.
